colAR Mix

The week leading up to our Fete gets VERY busy! We have been packing prizes, counting socks, sending equipment out to the stall holders and preparing for our class display.

In amongst our busy schedule we played with a new app today. As you know, we have started using augmented reality in our classroom. The colAR Mix app, takes augmented  reality to a whole new level. imageimage

Aurasma App in the Classroom

image

5SK have started experimenting with the Aurasma app. We have filmed a greeting for our lovely Principal, homework hints and story snippets.

The ideas of how to use Aurasma in our class are endless. We have even considered using it at our Fete this weekend.

Are you keen to try Aurasma? Follow the steps below and you will be on your way.

1. Download the Aurasma app from either iTunes or Android

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/aurasma/id432526396?mt=8

 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aurasma.aurasma&hl=en

2. Follow our channel Yr5SK’s Channel

3. Press the square icon and hold your device over the clock  on the Number of Day Sheet.

4. An Explain Everything video will appear. Search the sheet to see if there are any other triggers.

Regrouping

5SK used MAB blocks today to build their schema on regrouping. They found that it was better to start with the ones column otherwise you would have to backtrack during the sum.

5B at Shotton Primary

We have just listened to 5B at Shotton Primary School. They have  recorded story snippets on their blog.

We are now keen to record our own sizzling starts. 5SK are  wondering what they will sound like to other students around the world. Stay tuned………

Alphanumeric Grids

alphanumeric grid

al.pha.nu.mer.ic

origin: alphabetic + numeric

first used: 1950

5Sk are exploring alphanumeric grids today. Each square on a grid is called a cell. A cell can be named using a grid reference. When a letter is combined with a number to name a cell it is known as an alphanumeric code.

We label the horizontal locations along the bottom of the grid with letters from left to right. The vertical locations are named with numbers from the bottom to the top.

When we read a alphanumeric code we start with the letter and then the number. We can remember this by saying ‘we crawl before we walk.’

NED Show

Silence, uncontrollable laughter, silence………..The NED show was amazing! Cool yo-yo tricks and so much more. I loved the slow motion skit. Our 480 students were in awe.
