Word Cline

5SK have been working with a new vocabulary program this year called Shades of Meaning. I can’t say enough about this program and the conversations that have formed because of it. I am a huge fan of Jennifer Jones at Hello Literacy.

Shades of Meaning

Each week we create a word cline as a class and discuss the power of the 8 words in the set. 5SK have really responded to this program. Today we took it a step further and used the words in juicy sentences. Not only did the students use words from our set but were also encouraged to use literary devices to create imagery for the reader.

Here some of our wonderful examples based on a word cline with the parameters of most sparkling and least sparkling. 5SK were given a base sentence to work from.

I love your descriptive sentences but I really like the one that Jemma thought of ‘The shining gem flashed like a lighthouse on a dark and shadow filled night’ because it is descriptive and it is describing what the gem was flashing like.
