Math Skype Lessons

image

5SK participated in 4 Skype math lessons with students from Mount Vernon Presbyterian School yesterday morning. A huge thank you to Miss Immel, her students and their wonderful caregivers. We are ahead of Mount Vernon School by 15 hours as they are located in Atlanta, Georgia. Our session started at 8:30am Thursday morning which in Atlanta time was Wednesday afternoon at 5:30pm. Very cool!

Our math lessons were student created and run. They were broken up into 4 mini lessons. Two created by students at Mount Vernon and two were created by our students. Along with Skype, our students created PowerPoints, handouts and games for their lessons and we emailed our resources prior to the session.

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of using Skype as a lesson tool in the classroom and look forward to doing it again. Thank you again to Miss Immel, the students and families at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School for including us in this fantastic learning experience.

Our Very First Skype Session

Skype rocks! We participated in our very first Skype session this afternoon. 5SK stayed after school and we began with a scrumptious afternoon tea proudly sponsored by our local Civic Video. Thank you Sunny and Lyndell.

Our first Skype call was with QSI International School in Sarajevo and their teacher Mr Macmillan. They have students attending from all over the world and can learn three languages. Ty listed our animals, especially our dangerous ones and they told us about small bears and wolves.

Our second call was to Mrs Boydon and two classes at Mayflower Primary School. It was really interesting to hear that their local population is 250 ooo compared to ours that is only approximately 10 ooo. They are very far away from the beach and I am sure that they would love ours. We will have to take some photos and send them to the classes.

Our third Skype call was a mystery. Mrs K and I surprised the students with a call to Castledrums National School in Ireland. We chatted about authors and they told us about reading Roald Dahl books. 5SK enjoy Andy Griffiths books, especially Swinging on the Clothesline. Unfortunately it was after 6pm and our video played up. We will try again soon.

Sending a huge thank you to our wonderful parents who allowed 5SK to stay after school and to our parents who stayed and helped with our blogging.
