We are a year five class learning in Bowen in sunny North Queensland. Our town is famous for its yummy mangoes which we eat in the summer months and our beautiful beaches. Bowen is just north of Airlie Beach and approximately 40km from the Great Barrier Reef. Fishing is very popular here! Bowen has its very own Fishing Classic which runs in September each year. Farming is very big in Bowen and we grow tomoatoes, capsicums, beans, pumpkins, chillis, eggplants, watermelons, corn and much more. Mining plays a huge part in our community also as many of our parents work at the local coal mines, railway and coal port.
We started our blog last year as a way to learn from and with classes all around the world. Through our journey so far we have met some amazing teachers and classes. They continue to inspire us in our daily work.
Our blog contains information about our learning and links to fantastic blogs, educational videos and learning programs. It is also the gateway to our Kidblog accounts which we have started this year. You will notice that we don’t include photos of our students as this is our State Education Policy. We do however post work samples so we can show our visitors the great work 5SK is doing in class.
We are very excited to participate in our very first Edublogs and Quadblogging challenge this year.
Dear 5SK,
We are Ms. Seitz’s class in Michigan, USA. We are fourth graders, which is the same as year 5 in Australia. We really like your pictures and description of where you live. We also like how you told us about the characteristics of your town. We wonder how big your mango harvest is, if it ever snows in Australia, and how deep your coal mines are. We think we would like to be your blogging buddies.
From,
Ms. Seitz’s Class

Hi there its Mrs Layfield from a school in England.
Wow it sounds an amazing place where you live. Our school is in small village called Gee Cross just outside of Manchester in the North of England.
Our year 5 is made up of two classes each with 30 children in each class. We are 9 and 10 year old.
We are very busy at the moment getting ready for Christmas – we are due to have a lot of snow this winter so we may get a white Christmas. Very different to your Christmases on the beach in the sun.
We would love to hear from you – you can write on our chat page.
I have spoken to your teacher but we would love to hear from the children as well.
Speak to you soon
Thank you for your great comment. We will definitely visit your blog. We would like to learn about your school and country.
Hello,
I have enjoyed reading your blogs and learned much about your school and country. We are a group of grade 2 students from Canada. You can visit our blog at :
